The mathematics program provides to all students in the College, the mathematics and computer science courses required to satisfy the general education standards appropriate for a four-year, liberal arts college degree, mathematics courses leading to secondary school teacher certification, and courses leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Hence, the mathematics program offers courses at a variety of introductory levels to accommodate students of varying backgrounds and abilities.

The BS program in mathematics develops analytical, logical reasoning, and computational skills that prepares students for mathematics careers and graduate studies in mathematics and related disciplines. Mathematics graduates are employed in all sectors of the economy, including military, banking and finance, insurance, government, and education.

Faculty

Dr. Jonathan Asuru is originally from Nigeria. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with Ph. D in Computer Science. He has been at Stillman for nine years. He teaches Computing and Statistics and has been in higher education for 18 years.

Dr. Hanxiang Chen earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Alabama in 1993. He has been teaching in higher education for 26 years and has spent the last 11 years teaching at Stillman.

Mrs. Ruby Gibbs–Miller is a mathematics instructor who completed her undergraduate degree at Alabama State University and her graduate degree at The University of Alabama. She has been in higher education for the past 33 years.

Dr. Dennis Pabor is originally from Nigeria, Africa. He graduated from Syracuse University with his Ed. D. in 1986. He has been at Stillman for 12 years. He teaches classes in mathematics and has been in higher education for 25 years.

Dr. Brenda Weaver, an Alabama native, earned graduate degrees from The University of Alabama and The University of Tennessee.  She has taught at Stillman College for twenty-seven years. She currently teaches classes in mathematics and computer literacy.
